Emma Tennant
Emma says,
"The best advice to artists that I know of is to be
found in Winston Churchill’s brilliant essay ‘Painting
as a Pastime’
"Do not" he says "turn the critical eye of
passivity upon these efforts. Buy a paint box and have a
try'.
|
| Like Churchill, I do not aspire to
masterpieces, but rather to content myself with what he
describes as "a joy-ride in a paintbox".
Emma had an exhibition at The Gallery, Shepherd Market,
LONDON, W1. and a critique of the exhibition appeared in The
Independent Magazine on 30th March 2003 where it says that
"as a child she mucked around with paintboxes."
"She paints plants, she says, because as a gardener it’s
what she knows and loves.
She lives in the Scottish Borders with her farmer husband
and has converted the old potato store into a studio. For
many years was Chairman of the gardens section of the
Scottish National Trust. |

watercolour paintings on hand-made paper by Emma displayed at the Gallery
in the 'Flowers' exhibition in June 2004.
