Petra Röhr-Rouendaal

Roger first met her in Gaborone, because he knew her then husband but they met infrequently, usually at art exhibitions in the city.

Their paths crossed some years later in Lilongwe, Malawi when Roger was sitting by the pool of the hotel typing his final report for a consultancy.

Petra came to the pool for a swim and when she got out of the pool she looked at him but instead of a greeting she said “Where did you get that shirt?” It had been made for him by his wife in Gaborone from material that she had bought from the Mochudi Museum.  The story was told. “I know” said Petra, “I printed it !” From then on they became firm friends and she drew the illustrations for his book “Africa, Africa!”

Apart from illustrating books for such authors as Ken Follett, she travels the world teaching communities how to produce pictures (or visual aids)  for health and education. She is a member of the Birmingham Art Circle, The Sutton Coldfield Society of Artists and an Associate Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. She recently received a few times prizes for the best painting on show.  German by birth she studied fine art and graphic design in Germany and later did a postgraduate degree in printmaking at Brighton Art Collage.

Featured in this Gallery are the paintings by Petra displayed at the Gallery in the 'Some of my Friends' exhibition in November 2003.
